Hint of Mahasamadhi
About four months before Acharyal attained Mahasamadhi, a person visited a certain doctor's clinic as a patient. There, his eye fell on pictures of Sri Sharadambal, Jagadguru Sri Abhinava Vidyatheertha Mahaswamigal and Jagadguru Sri Bharathi Teertha Mahaswamigal, hung on a wall of the room. He was a person who had not even heard of Sringeri before, and was therefore not at all, ordinarily, in a position to recognize those in the pictures. Suddenly he exclaimed, "These are the same Ones whom I saw in the dream!" and was overcome by emotion! In answer to the doctor's question, he gave the following explanation.
"I had a dream some days ago, in which I saw a Goddess seated in a temple. On each side in front of Her was a Simhasanam (royal seat) on which were seated two saints wearing ochre robes. I could see all the three of Them very clearly. Suddenly, the Mother Goddess rose from Her seat, walked forward towards the elder of the two sages, lifted Him, and walked back to Her seat carrying Him on Her waist! Those whom I saw so vividly in the dream are certainly These whose pictures you have hung here!"
In a few months, Acharyal shed His mortal coil.
A devotee of Acharyal had heard of many people who had been blessed in their dreams by their Guru. He had not had any such dream or vision of Acharyal, and therefore started having doubts about his Guru Bhakti! On 20 September, 1989, when he was pondering over this, thinking that it is perhaps because of lack of devotion that he had not had Acharyal gracing him in his dreams.
It was early morning on the 21st. He had a vivid dream in which Acharyal appeared and said, "Hereafter, Swamigal (Jagadguru Sri Bharathi Theertha Mahaswamigal) will give you prasad".
Acharyal shed His mortal coil that same day.
